Restaurant Safety
Food allergy safety in restaurants is not about perfection. It’s about awareness, communication, and trust.
I know this from both lived experience and decades of advocacy.
I live with multiple life-threatening food allergies and have survived severe anaphylactic reactions. I’ve spent more than 20 years working alongside families, advocacy organizations, and safety partners to help create environments where people with food allergies can dine more confidently and restaurants can operate with greater clarity and care.
This page exists to support restaurants in doing exactly that.
Why Restaurant Food Allergy Safety Matters
For people with food allergies, dining out requires trust.
For restaurants, it requires systems that support clear communication and thoughtful preparation.
Most food allergy incidents are not the result of negligence. They happen because of:
-
Miscommunication
-
Inconsistent processes
-
Unclear roles
-
Gaps in understanding
With the right guidance, these gaps can be reduced — protecting guests, staff, and the restaurant itself.
My Approach
Restaurant safety guidance through Food Allergy Zone is grounded in:
-
Lived experience with life-threatening food allergies
-
Long-standing advocacy and education work
-
Respect for restaurant teams and real-world operations
-
Practical, human-centered solutions
This work is not about blame or compliance checklists.
It’s about helping restaurants build confidence, consistency, and trust.
